We saw butterflies!

Mama!

I can´t believe that Hailey hasn´t had her baby! I thought that for sure she had baby Drew!  What if she has her baby while I am talking to you for Christmas?  Speaking of Christmas.....I only get to speak to you guys for 30 min......so make sure that you have everything ready!  I will let you know what time when we get a little bit closer to Christmas!  18 days!  WOOOOOOOOO!

I swear every week here I feel more and more humbled and grateful for the gospel.  This week, as we went to buy a battery for our gas detector,  we walked into the store and a security guard saw the Book of Mormon in my hand.  She asked if she could see it for a little bit.  I asked her if she had talked with our companions before and she said that yes before but now she works every Sunday.  As we bought the battery I noticed that she had been treasuring every page.  looking at the pictures, and almost hugging it to preserve its value.  The Book of Mormon has always been a part of my life and I never thought that it was of such great value until I saw her face when we told her that she could have the book.  It has changed the way that I study.  I feel like I really need to treasure every bit of revelation that I receive.

This week we found some escogidos! (translation, select or golden investigators) Just like Elder Goodrich said, we have escogidos everywhere but it is just our job to prepare them.  The two investigators that came with us this week are Antonio and Rufi.  Antonio accepted baptism without a doubt.  We taught him lesson two so that he could know where his family members are and we taught him about the temple.  He started crying when we told him he would be able to see his family again.  Also when we presented the Book of Mormon,  he asked where it said that Jesus Christ visited the Americas.  He said that Jesus loves all of his brothers and so he had to have come here.  We gave him homework to read 3 Nephi 11 and he started and hasn´t stopped reading the Book of Mormon.

Rufi was a street contact too.  The missionaries were walking by her house about 3 years ago and she asked for a Book of Mormon.  She has already read all of it and she knows that Joseph Smith is a prophet.  When we taught about the plan of salvation and the temple she told us that she wanted to enter that building.  We asked her if she knew how she could enter and she answered, By being baptized right?!.  I am just waiting for her to tell us that she is already a member of the church!    A few things about Rufi., she has cancer, but she is the strongest woman I know.  She still is running around doing things for her grandkids, she is full of hope, and she isn´t afraid to die.  I really admire when people have given up fear in things that we don´t know will happen.  It is something that I want to change.  To not be scared.  To completely trust and to do things that make me happy.

So Michoacan has so many great things here INCLUDING butterflies!  They have a great sanctuary and today a member took us to the butterfly sight! It was an amazing experience!  I felt like Katnis in the woods!  I am so grateful for the beauty of the mountains!  The world is beautiful!

Thank you for sending me packages! I hope I get them soon! (Note from mom: I decided not to try to change the way she worded a lot of things because #1 I think it's cute and #2 I'm not quite sure what she is trying to say.  Ha ha)

I love you more!

A week of Learning!

MAMA!

Sounds like you had the most exciting week ever!  Clark wrote me!  I was so happy to get his letter!  It sounds like you had a blast for Thanksgiving!

Baby Drew comes in 5 days!  AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!  That is amazing! (Note from Mom: Caitlin oldest sister is having a baby and they are naming him Drew.  He is due on Dec 4th.  This mom is pretty excited!!!!!)

I am so excited for this new Christmas Season!   I love how the holidays help us to remember the most important things in life!  Have you seen the new Christmas things from the church?   Because I haven´t......I think that we are going to talk about it tomorrow!  Whoo hoo I am so excited!

This week was wonderful!  I feel like I have been learning more and more everyday from the members, investigators, and my companion.

We had a miracle baptism this week and it was a little stressful because the 2 times that she was supposed to be baptized the week before she disappeared.  I honestly lost all trust in her and felt betrayed but I learned that as missionaries sometimes we just need to forget what happened, move on, and keep working.  I think that it is an important thing that we need to learn as people too. To learn that disappointments happen but we just need to keep working.

I feel like I have been learning a lot about leadership in this area.  Honestly at the beginning of the transfer I did not trust my leaders.  I felt like they only cared about the baptisms and they didn´t trust me.  But I have learned that the most important thing that we must do is trust our leaders.  Trust that they have the divine assignment  and trust that we have something to learn from them.  We have met some less active members here that fell away from the church because of the leadership but the most important thing that I could learn is that I can let my pride overtake me or really have trust in my leaders.  I also learned that I can´t expect these less actives to return if I don´t trust in my leaders.

We have another progressing investigator named Melina.  She absolutely loves the Gospel and loves going to church.  I am so happy that we are able to help this area!

I learned that it is most important to have hope in situations when everyone says that it is impossible.  Remember what it says about my p blessing.  that I have the gift of hope.  I finally realized that it is true.  That I have had a lot of hope in these areas.  Its funny because I felt like I was depressed and didn´t have an ounce of hope but really sometimes we have more hope than we think!  We had our branch conference and President Torres gave a talk that changed my perspective.  it is about the neighbor that didn´t know how to wash her clothes and the lady who was looking out the window always sad that the neighbor didn´t know anything.  Complaining to her husband.  But the next day the husband washed the windows and the wife finally saw that the neighbor always knew how to wash her clothes. Sometimes we look out the window and see everything dirty and we judge what we see but other times we just need to wash the window.  I am going to try to wash my window this week so that I can see the people as Christ sees them!

I love you so much!

Dia de Accion de Gracias! translation....Thanksgiving Day!

MAMA!

33 Days until I get to talk to you!  Woo Hoo!  I just hope that I will be able to speak English.  Sometimes I just forget some words in English and my Spanish comes out.  Don´t make too much fun of me OK!

My week was great! We have a lot of goals as a zone and I feel a lot of unity with this zone.  We are working hard to "transform"  this area.

My companion is AMAZING!  She has a heart of gold!  Did you find her mom on Facebook?  She told me that she was really excited that you wanted to be her friend.  We do have a lot in common but she definitely likes a lot more girly things than I do.  There is a lot of pink in our apartment....haha.  I think that all of my companions who are Latinas have liked pink a lot.

In Zitacuaro there are 8 missionaries.  H. Ramirez, H. Puga from Guatamala, H. Dagua from Columbia, E. Davis from Portland, E. Zamora from Sonora, E. Juarez from Washington, and E. Roca from Merida.  We are sure working hard but loving every minute of it.  This week was a little crazy with getting everything ready for the Branch conference that we are going to have.

Elder Barton was the AP last transfer and We didn´t get to work with him but I am glad that good things are being said about me.  Although I would prefer that nothing be said about me...

This week we did a service project and we went and helped the Branch presidents family with their greenhouse.  There is a little town called San Felipe that grows and sells poinsettias so we went to make bags to sell them in.  They have so many flowers!  There are so many different types of poinsettias!  We had a little photo shoot in their greenhouse to remember the project.

We have been working with a few families lately but it is hard to tell if they will be progressing a lot or if it is only to be nice.  Lots of prayers for this area please!

Thank you for the pictures and always writing me!  I love you so much!
Hermana Drew

We went to the poinsettias farm to make bags for the people to put the flowers in to sell.

So pretty!

We were caught in a pretty bad rain storm.....

There was hail involved!

All about my area!

MOM!

So many questions!  I will try to answer all of them the best that I can!

First I LOVE MY NEW AREA!  Can I tell you the best part?!  The Public transportation is Volkswagen Buses!  That´s right!  I get to ride around everyday in my dream car!  My love has grown so much for them!  MY new companion is AMAZING!  She came into the mission at the same time as me but will be in the mission for one month more because she wasn´t in the MTC as long as I was.  So we are a tag team in planning and taking care of the area!  My Spanish is getting better and better everyday.  Some people say that I am a native speaker but I don´t know if I believe them.  Just wait until Christmas when I talk to you.  I can tell you that my English is horrible.  I think I will be struggling when I talk to you. Hermana Ramirez´s English is great!  She has to study it everyday for 30 minutes so we help each other out.  I have had a few dreams in Spanish but it isn´t too often that that happens.

If you want to send anything to my companion have it be a cool American thing  The coolest thing that you can find!  She is a girly girl and loves pink, lotions, perfume, jewelry.  Just something cute!  Also you can send her a Christmas card if you would like!

I would love some nutty buddies and Reese's.  also could you put some of the socks for dress shoes in there?  I love you so much!  The packages are the best thing!  No matter when you send it I might have to wait a little because it will be in the offices and the people only bring things at the beginning of the month.   In December there will be more time because we are having more conferences.  I am so excited!

This week was great!  A very humbling week and I learned a ton!  I spoke in sacrament meeting about humility.  I think I learned more about humility preparing for this talk then in my whole mission.  Don´t get me wrong I have learned a lot about it but this time it was different!  I love the Church!

LOVE YOU SO MUCH!,
Hermana Drew

Funny story with this pic.....This man jumped in at the last second and would not move.  We were going to take another picture but then the park police came and started talking with this man.  We left the scene before talking a redo. HAHAHAH!

Good bye Tenancingo.....Hello Zitacuaro!

MOM!

IT¨S TRUE!  I left Tenancingo and the Sate of Mexico!  I am now in Zitacuaro with Hermana Ramirez!  She is from my generation of missionaries and I am way excited to serve here!  Fun Fact for you....I am serving in the same area that Hermana Brinkerhoff served in! Woot woot!

The last week in Tenancingo was a rough one.  Our investigators weren´t really progressing and it was a little sad to see them in this state.  It is amazing how much the little things make all of the difference!

We had a really cool experience while  we were waiting for a member to join us.  We sat down and started to study and all of the sudden a big group of construction workers came and sat down by us and started asking us questions.  We ended up teaching about 7 workers the Restoration of the Gospel and their responses were amazing!  Many of them were saying that they had never heard about Joseph Smith before and how the message we shared changed their whole perspective on their lives.  Unfortunately......They live in a different missionary area.  We were glad to share the message.

What else can I tell you....Oh I did get a message that I received a package and I guess that is the Halloween package that you are talking about.   it still isn´t in my hands but it will be here soon!  I am so excited!

Also if you would like you can send the lenses for my glasses and there are pawn shops that I can go to to buy a camera but what ever is easiest for you is great!

I feel like I have learned so much out here and I am really excited to learn even more from this area and Hermana Ramirez!  Everyone from Tenacingo says HI and they thank you for sending and supporting me on the mission!

I hope that you have the best week ever!
LOVE,
Hermana Drew

Day of the Dead

MOM!

This week was fantastic!  We worked hard but had a blast doing it!  I think I have learned so much in this transfer and that is exactly what I wanted to do!  We will be having transfers again next week.  I think that I might be leaving....I don´t know how I feel about that but I am glad that I got to know Tenancingo.

Good job with bearing your testimonies!  I practically cried the whole time during our testimony meeting!  So much power!  (Note from Mom, Last email, Caitlin challenged us to bare our testimonies.)

For day of the dead we worked but we decided to plan a little activity for the ward. That morning we went and played volleyball.  It was raining in the morning but then the rain went away and it was sunny  and we were ready to play!  For day of the dead the people here go and visit the graveyard.  They put an offering of flowers, fruits and chocolates and bread for the dead.  The kids go around to the stores to ask for candy and everyone dresses up really scary, Chucky, skeletons, and other creepy things, not cute things like ponies, grandmas, and pumpkins,  It kind of scared me but really cool to see their traditions.  In Tenancingo there was a lot of traffic because of the flower market.  Day of the Dead is their biggest selling day and all of the streets were closed for the market.  We got to know a lot of the taxi drivers haha,

It doesn´t really bother me I am glad that you let me know what is happening because a lot of the time I don´t hear anything from my friends.  Julia is faithful in writing me. (Note from Mom, I asked her if it bothered her me telling her what is going on around town, as you can tell she doesn't get many emails from people so all of you out there reading this, get busy and write Hermana Drew.  As for the rest of you who have been faithfully writing her, like Julia, nice work!  I know she appreciates it!)

Sarah is engaged!  I cant believe it! Woo hoo!

I love you more!

Testimonies and Conversions

MOM!

I love Halloween with all of my heart!  I think it is so fun to be someone different for a night!  There is something magical about holidays!  I am glad that we can celebrate them!  I think for Day of the Dead we are going to try and go to Malinalco and look at the ruins if not we will be headed to the cemetery to take pics and latter spend some time with the members.

Unfortunately I was not able to find my camera....I am so mad at myself for not listening to the spirit and putting my pictures on a memory card.  I feel dumb for all of the times that I have not listened to the spirit.  Luckily Hermana Toone is nice enough to let me borrow her camera when I need it.  The only sad thing is that this week we didn´t end up taking pictures either.  We will do better in this week.  No worries.

So the painting that I bought is of the last supper.  The Catholics have a really tacky picture that they usually have in their houses  but I bought a pretty one.  But it is a little small.  And then I just bought some handmade sandals.  I thought they were cool but I don´t know if you would like them.....haha.

For Christmas!  OOOH I am so excited!  Things that I need....a couple new skirts and shirts, nutty bars from Little Debbies, and maybe a Christmas CD and the CD Choose Something Like a Star, and Showtime, by Motab.  Well those are a few things that I want but I will gladly accept what you think is acceptable!  Maybe a new pic of the Fam. :)

The work is going great!  A lot of our investigators went on vacation this week so we didn´t have a lot of people in church  but we are starting off this new month strong!

Remember Janeth from the Noche Mexicana?  Well we had one of the best appointments with her.  We hadn´t seen her for a month and when we saw her again she bore her testimony to us.  She said that finding this gospel was like finding the light in her life again.  Everytime she picks up the Book of Mormon, she feels like the story is familiar and what she needs.  I was so impressed with her testimony!  I have studied a lot about testimonies this week and I am embarrassed to say that I was scared to share it before.  We shouldn´t wait until we have a strong testimony to share it.  That is when we most need to share it.  I challenge every one of you to bare your testimony in this Fast and Testimony meeting on Sunday!  It doesn´t have to be something big and powerful but just sharing the simple truths that you know!  We must stand as a light to those around us!

Mom I learned that we get to choose our parents before we come to Earth and I am so glad that I chose you and Dad.  I feel your love and support in every moment and I am so sorry for how I treated you two before.  Thank you for everything that you do for me!

I LOVE YOU MOSTEST!

This week marks HUMP DAY!!!

MOM! MOM! MOM! MOM! MOM! MOM!

I honestly love seeing so many pictures!  It is the best moment when I get to see all of your smiling faces!  You should probably send an updated family pic so I can show people how cute my family is!

Clark is home!  That is so great! I am so amazed at how much the  family has changed in so little time!  So many babies and so much more!  I bet Clark´s talk was amazing!  I have come to know a few of his friends here in the mission.  They are all going to be reunited soon too.

I loved the pictures of you guys with the Toone's!  Hermana Toone showed me a picture that her parents sent too.  I love how the mission unites people in every place!  Hermana Toone is great!  She reminds me so much of McKenna and I feel like I am serving the mission with my sister.  (Note from Mom, Caitlin's companion's mom and I connected on the mission Facebook page.  They are from Mesa Arizona and were in Cedar City for the Shakespeare Festival and we were able to meet up with them.  It was great!)

This week I feel like I have learned so much!  I know that I am supposed to teach people but I felt like everyone was teaching me this week.  The members, converts, and investigators are all so inspired by the spirit that they help me learn what I need to do in this moment.

I think I finally have learned what you wanted me to, Mom.  I realized that before I came on the mission I had a hard heart.  Like a heart covered in layers of concrete from past experiences.  Being on the mission I have had hard times that have chipped away the concrete little by little.  My heart is now a part of this work and I know how the gospel can help the people.  My companions are my friends, the ward members are my family, and I feel myself connecting with the people that I meet in the streets.  It is true that we are all part of this Family of God.  We are all working together to get back to His presence, and this means working the best that we can, now!  I have repented for everything that I did before the mission but I know that it has helped me more than ever in THIS MOMENT!  We only have today ONCE so we must make it the best!

Thank you so much for the pictures, letters, prayers, and support!
I love you so much!,
Hermanita Drew
(your daughter)

Sorry we didn´t take any pictures this week......

Hola Hola!

MOM!

I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THOSE PICTURES ARE OF TAY!  She looks gorgeous!  Who is this boy that she went with?  And I love the way that she asked for Sadies!  HAHAHAHAHA!  Koalas!  She fits right in with the crazy line of asking to dances! ( Note from Mom. Taylor went to Homecoming and I sent Cait a picture, she really did look pretty.  She asked a boy to Sadies with a stuffed koala bear and a sign that read, "It seems you meet all of the "KOALA"fications, could you BEAR to go to Sadies with me.?")

About my package!  I got everything safely.  The package wasn´t broken into or anything!  Good work!  Now you know what to do when you send a package for Christmas! ;)  Thank you for everything!  Now I don´t have to buy food for a few weeks!  I love it!  (Another note from Mom.  I finally got brave and sent a package.  I was so happy to know it made it there safe and intact.)

I bet Clark is going to do great in his homecoming talk!  Take lots of pictures okay!  (One more note from Mom, Caitlin's cousin Clark got home from his mission and we went to Brigham City for the Homecoming.)

Position in the mission....MIssionary....co-mayor....My only responsibilities are working in my area.  Sometimes I speak in the zone meetings.  The elders in my area are Elder Bird and Elder Hernandez.  They are hard workers.  I honestly don´t know a lot of missionaries because I only have served in two areas and the zones don´t change a lot but I can say that the people with whom I am friends will be lifetime friends.  Elder Pratt....I don´t know him too well but he is a hard worker and he has a big heart for the people.

Mission prep.  I loved it and we did have a lot of people go but I think that right now a lot of people don´t want to go on missions.  We just need to have more returned missionaries talk and get them excited.

I get to play the piano a lot but it is usually the same songs over and over again because the people don´t know a lot of hymns.  The mission leader wants to put together a Christmas program.  Too bad I probably won´t be here.

This week was great!  We got a lot of work done and Daniel was baptized!  It was a great moment and I love that I was able to know him from the start!  He has changed so much!

One night we were walking along and I was sending a message from our cellphone.  There is a curse for being tall here.... I hit my head again but this time with my glasses and they are now scratched.  Also I might have lost my camera.....worst news ever BUT I am praying with all of my heart and I know that I am going to find it today!

Last week we went to Chalma to buy a painting and sandals but I also had my first experience in a Catholic church.  They are beautiful buildings but there is nothing more sacred than the temple.  There are always stores in front of Catholic churches and it just draws the Spirit away.  I got to see a Catholic priest in action sprinkling holy water...oh my.

This week we decided to start our day with visiting El Cristo Rey!  We woke up really early and watched the sun rise.  It is so amazing all of the creations of Heavenly Father. We also got some studying done.

But don´t worry we are still working hard here.  Time is going by too fast.  I wish I had more time in the day to visit everyone but I am learning on how to manage my time better.

Thank you for everything Mom!  I love you tons!

I LOVE CONFERENCE!

MOM!

I am so grateful for General Conference!  I think that this time was the first time that I knew without a doubt that the prophet is called of God!  Sister Toone and I had a bet with the new apostles and out of all of the three we both got Elder Rasband right. I got chills when I saw them stand up and walk to their spots.  I could only imagine the thoughts going through their heads.  To be called an apostle of the Lord.  To have to receive revelation for the whole world.  I started to cry in that moment.  It reminded me so much of all of the times that I have been scared.  Especially when I came into the mission.  As I finished my time in the CCM I remember that my testimony was so tiny and weak.  I was so scared to have to help more people have a testimony.  To help people find the way to be saved BUT if there is anything that I have learned it is that sometimes we are scared.  And sometimes we just have to have more trust in the Lord than in what we know.  We need to realize that Satan will work against us and try to get us to doubt ourselves and the Holy Ghost.  But if there is something that I learned from my good friend Tiana it is that, ``if it was right then, it is right now!`` Sometimes we just need to pray so that God will re-light the fire that we have inside.

We have one new investigator named Victor.  He is a 19 year-old boy who has had a rough life with his family.  He definitely doesn`t feel the love of Christ in his life.  We gave the Restoration pamphlet as we contacted him and as we walked away we saw him sit down and start reading.  He had read it all before we got to the appointment the next day!  As we taught the lesson I could feel the spirit so strong during the first vision and when we asked him how he felt,  he said he felt ``chido`` (in Spanish, it is slang for good)  which is the best compliment that the church could get from a 19 year old boy.  He ended up going with us to the priesthood session and when we left he stayed for an hour until there were problems with the internet.  As we returned the next day we talked to his mom and she told us how much he has changed in 3 days.  He is reading the Book of Mormon daily and I know that he will progress.

I am really grateful to work with Hermana Toone!  We have worked really hard this week to start the transfer off great.  I am glad to say that she is fits into good ol`Tenancingo.  There is something about this area that changes the missionaries.  I remember that when I first got here I was really serious and all about doing the work but I am glad to say that I am enjoying the work!  I love the area and I love the people! Don`t get me wrong I loved Valle too but I think I have enjoyed more of the work here.  I think that it has to do with my time in the mission too.

I learned from this General Conference that we only have today once. That we must make the best of every moment and help as many people that we can to keep the commandments and follow the footsteps of Christ.  I want to change my mission from this day forth to helping more people. To stop thinking about myself and worry about how I can help more people.  I feel like I have wasted so much time worrying about how things will help me than worrying about other people and I will be doing a lot of repentance.  Thank you so much for the talk that you left in my package.  It helped me re-evaluate my life!

I love you so much!  Tell Clark Hi for me!

HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY!

Mother Dearest!

I am so sad...I arranged for some members to call you on your birthday and sing to you in English I had a little note too. BUT they dialed the number wrong...I am sorry that I wasn´t able to do a lot for you on your birthday but I am so blessed to have you as my mom.  You have always been my best friend and have helped me through everything!  I don´t know how you know it but you always know when I need a hug or just to talk!  Thank you for everything!
A copy of the note Caitlin wrote out for the members to read to Mom

We had transfers this week and I now am with Hermana Toone from Mesa AZ!  I am so excited to be with her!  I think we are going to get a long just great!  She is 20 years old and has 14 months in the mission!  She was studying music at BYU and she seem like an outdoorsy girl.  I really think that our personalities are the same!

This week...What can I say.....We worked!  Working hard all day long and looking for people to teach.  It was a pretty normal week for us but we loved every minute of it.  On Monday we had a zone activity and we had a BBQ!  I miss hamburgers so much!  8 months since I have eaten one!  It was great because we played volleyball and got to know each other better. I don´t think that I will have another activity because President doesn´t want us to be unfocused.

It rained really hard Monday and we were running through the streets with our investigators.  HAHAHA!  I will never forget the moments that we have been drenched in the rain!

I have really com to love the members here!  They are even more excited to work with us and help us with fellow shipping!  They are such a great help!

I got a call saying that my package arrived!  WHOO HOO!  I am just waiting for it to get into my hands now!  THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I love you so much Mom!

The Last Supper

8 Months!

MOM!

This week was pretty normal!  I am one month older today.....the time is going by way too fast! One more week here and we have transfers.  Hermana Salazar feels like she is going to stay and that I will be transfered.  But only President Whitehead knows what is going to happen.  Sometimes I wish that I knew what was coming but I guess that is the purpose of God´s plan, that we always try to be ready for anything that will happen.

We have one investigator that is amazing.  When we showed up to teach his sister he listened in.  There is a group here called 4th and 5th step for AA.  And this group helps the people overcome their addictions but the people think that they can believe in Christ in whatever way they want and they can do whatever they want.  He was a part of this group and he expressed that he gave this group everything.  All of his feelings and the deepest things from his soul but it was all for nothing.  He told us that this group will not help him be saved. When we invited him to be baptized he told us that he had no doubt that this is what he should do.  He really is a golden investigator!

I love this work with all of my heart!  I have really learned to have charity and patience.  I don´t know if I have really changed a lot but sometimes I look in the mirror and doubt if that person really is me.  It is amazing what the mission can do for us!

I love you so much!
